THE HEALTH CARE SYSTEM

The Health care system in IRAN is the responsibility of the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare. Under this ministry, the Director General of the Food and Drug Administration is responsible for the government’s health centers and hospitals and controls other public and private hospitals. The majority of the population are under public health care (social security insurance).

Health care is also available in Iran through private centers, like hospitals and clinics,  including insurance schemes.

Doctors practice in hospitals and clinics from 8 A. M. to 1 P.M. and they visit the patients in their private offices from 4 P.M. to 8 P.M; 5 days a week. Members of the insurance schemes pay a proportion of prescription and hospital expenses. All government employees, factory workers, as well as most private firms hold social security insurance.

IRAN has more than 1,700 hospitals and clinics all over the country. There are more than 5,000 drug stores that operate around the globe and some 110,000 doctors practice in hospitals, clinics and private offices.
